Reflect, Relax, Rejuvenate, Rejoice

The 4Rs of a spa. Sounds familiar? Anyhow, that has been exactly what I've been trying to do the past week...and well, it seems pretty successful...so far...

Reflect:

Attended the trial of a friend and mentor at the Subordinate Courts yesterday. For those who have not been to court and would like to experience all the drama, trust me, its not as fun as the way it may be pictured on telivision.

I went to the new Ikea Restaurant & Cafe at Tampines for lunch, the place was swarming with kids, and I just can't stand those uncouth and unpresumptious people who cannot be bothered to clear their plates after eating. Like after all, that's the precise reason why your meal is so economical, as the Ikea managment said, "less work to clear, more time to serve you and prepare your food." Yet some of these people couldn't be bothered, wait till they end up as cleaners will they then truly understand how hard things can become....Ignorant fools...

There are also these people who cannot wait for people in front to place their trays on the belt and settle payment, but they are already pushing their trays to the front and inconveniencing others. Simply no consideration. At the end of the day, if you are seeking sometime for some peace and quiet to enjoy Ikea...don't go on school holidays & weekends. It is not only a mad race to fight for seats, but also a spoiler with those few wretched uncivilised "beasts." Apart from that, try their SWEDISH MEATBALLS, a combination of Beef + Pork accompanied with cranberry dippings, it is good....oh and the Chocolate & Almond cake for dessert. As for main course, I would recommend the daily special: Fish & Chips in chives sauce.

That was the spoiler of the day...and getting back to the court case, I arrived exactly on the dot and without a doubt, the courtroom was full. There were only 2 rows for audiences anyway. So a whole mob of us gathered outside, you know, it is just so heartwarming to see so many familiar faces (people who I have not seen for quite a while) gather together in support of a former friend who had been wrongly accused.

All too soon, the verdict was passed and from the looks of the faces exiting the chamber, it certainly did not spell good news....After which was an escape from the Paparazzi which even block our car....my goodness....(speaking of which, they were camping there since 7.30am in the morning.)

Further details of this incident are so sensitive I don't think I can write anymore than I already have.

Relax & Rejuvenate:

Attended a retreat at the National Service Resort & Country Club (NSRCC) last week. It was really a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Imagine...waking up to the silence and the cool morning air...no thoughts of work...and certainly away from my best friend (my ASUS notebook PC).

I really enjoyed it, taking the time to do some leisure stuff like my quiet time, swimming, cycling all the way to Changi beach....

I certainly felt refreshed and re - charged after that.

The next day spent some quality family time at the Singapore Botanical Gardens. My mother and sister headed off to do some photography as part of a course they were attending. While my father and I spent time brisk walking and talking about anything under the sun....from politics to overseas studies and food....

I actually feel glad to have time on my side and to take a step out of this rat race for a while. You will see many things from a different angle and things you never thought existed. Apart from all the people, there were tourists, dogs and even this man with a camera the size of a bazooka doing professional photography. What interest me was this group doing some Tai Chi with their Chinese fans...it looked as if they were practising, than again they may have been planted there by the Singapore Tourism Board.

Went for drama rehearsel on Tuesday, we'll be performing the MRT terrorist show at St Andrews Cathedral this Easter. Similar to the one we did at Newton Life Church before I left for Vietnam. I'm acting as this Singaporean yuppy who is a "banana" if you know what I mean...those bachelors who climb the corporate ladder but can't speak a word of Mandarin. It is an honor to use my God given talent to contribute to this project. It was so much fun the last round, I pray and I hope that all those involved and gel together without any difficulty and that we would be able to perform as a testimony for God and may this drama reach out to the lost and bring them to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord & Savior.

Met up with a friend at Clarke Quay for high tea on Wednesday. I discovered a whole new area of life at the Robertson Quay district with Chocolate Factory and 'Canale.' Its this pastry shop which makes great chocolate desserts ( I think the best in Singapore), under the leadership of Chef Justin Pang, the vice president of the newly formed Singapore Pastry Alliance. There was this dessert called the Merang, we couldn't really figure out how to consume it. What looked like cream turned out to be a lump of icing sugar which shattered when we tried to break off small bits of it. Then the cashier made a mistake of charging us the wrong bill. Only $10.75? I asked. When we consumed so many items....We could have been despicable and pay that amount instead of our $26, but its not right to cheat a business so we clarified everything and settled the bill.

Rejoice

It was kind of a shock receiving my final results. It was announced that it would be out on Thursday, 15th March 2007. However, it came on 14th March 2007, 5pm, just as I was lifting a magazine of the shelf at Times Bookshop in Plaza Singapura. Oh my gosh! When I read the following:

Exam Results for 0400382H

But it looked good -

Issues in H & T: B
SIP: Z

Result: GR

THIS WAS IT!!! I have graduated, and not only that, I could not believe my eyes that I received a distinction for my internship. What seemed like a dream had became reality, that Pass with Commendation. The little extra I had always prayed for.

I couldn't be happier that I phoned my family to tell them the good news.

Later that night, I was touched when I found out that my MP had been wondering where I was all this while and he was concerned if anything had happened to me. Its just so amazing that the political leaders would actually ask about a small fry such as myself.

Well, that's about it for now...and to everyone out there...try to take some time out of your busy schedule if time permits to just appreciate some of the little things in life you might not know existed.

Till then....signing off!
